If you’ve seenAvengers: Infinity War, then you know in the post-credits scene Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) pages Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) as half of living creatures, including him, turn to dust. So if he had this pager on his person since the mid-90s, why did he wait untilInfinity Warto use it? Wouldn’t calling in Captain Marvel be a good idea during the Battle of New York or when Ultron was going to create an extinction-level event?

Peter: And I know you probably have an answer for this. Why didn’t Nick Fury not use the pager untilInfinity War? Because this big hole opened up in the sky and aliens attacked New York City.
Kevin Feige:Well, I’d say two things. One, she does say it’s gotta be a real emergency, right? Yeah.
Peter: Because that was just a city. I guess that’s not the world.
Kevin Feige:The other thing I’d say is how do you know he never hit it? How do we know he never pushed it before? We’ve never seen him push it before. That doesn’t mean he never did.
Peter: Good answer.
Is it? I’m pretty sure the Battle of New York and Ultron’s Sokovia Drop both qualify as real emergency since the fate of humanity hangs in the balance. I understand not calling in Captain Marvel for the Helicarrier launch inCaptain America: The Winter Soldieror Justin Hammer’s crappy drones inIron Man 2, but the plots of theAvengersmovie probably could have used Captain Marvel’s skills. If it’s happened that he hit paged her and she didn’t respond, then you have to answer the new question of why she didn’t answer the page.
To be fair, Captain Marvel opens up a new can of worms because she’s so insanely powerful, and I predict that they’re probably going to keep her in the cosmic realm because as her movie shows, nothing on Earth is much of a threat to her.
