We Were Liars, the television adaptation ofE. Lockhart’s novel, wasan instant hitwhen it premiered a few weeks ago. The young adult series is rated fresh at 60% on the review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, but since the season dropped on June 18, news about a second season has been scarce.Deadlinecaught up with Prime Video’s Head of TV,Vernon Sanders, and discussed the streamer’s slate of young adult shows. They also asked about the status of the unannounced second season. Sanders had some good news to share, but none of it was about a renewal. He revealed that a roadmap for Season 2 was being created at the moment. Below, he explained:

“That’s one of the shows where the writers are hard at work, working on what a Season 2 would be. We’ve been really excited by the results we’ve seen there, and it’s one of the shows that I hope will have some positive news to report soon. They’re hard at work in presenting us with material on a Season 2, and there’s been quite a clamor from fans of that show to keep the story going. So we’ll see.”

What ‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 Could Look Like, According to Its Creators

The first season ended on a major cliffhanger as Cadence (Emily Alyn Lind) learned what had transpired on the fateful night she lost her memories. The cliffhanger hinted at more from the show, and co-creatorsJulie PlecandCarina Adly MacKenziehave a lot planned. They told Collider’sChristina Radishthat they haveplenty of source material to tap intoif a second season is a go. Apart from following the present timeline, the show could also explore the past from Lockhart’s prequel book, and more. Plec said:

“We have a lot of paths we can go down in future seasons while continuing to watch this family, and specifically Cadence, rebuild their souls, so to speak, and continue to fight the good and/or bad fight in present-day Beechwood Island. We also have many, many, many skeletons of the past that we can unearth, by going back and seeing what Beechwood was like before too. We have big plans. We need big viewers, and we will get in there and bring you great new stories as soon as possible.”
