One girl’s imagination becomes larger than life in Collider’s exclusive first look at the trailer forSketch. Helmed and penned bySeth Worley, in what will serve as his feature-length directorial debut, the dark yet incredibly colorful comedy features the talents of an all-star cast that includesTony Hale(Arrested Development),D’Arcy Carden(A League of Their Own),Bia Belle(Lady in the Lake),Kue Lawrence(The Amityville Murders), andKalon Cox(Preschool in LA). Set for a cinematic release on August 6, the PG-rated production is the perfect summer flick to keep everyone in the family entertained.

Taylor (Hale) is a single dad just trying to do what’s best for his two children, Amber (Belle) and Jack (Lawrence). The sudden passing of his wife has taken a hit on his mental and emotional state. All the while, he’s continued to try and put on a brave face for the sake of his kids. Coping with her grief in the only way she knows how, Amber turns to her sketchbook as a way to escape the all-encompassing darkness around her. Throughout the trailer, we see the young girl drawing incredibly imaginative creatures, but things take a turn when they jump off the pages and into reality. Suddenly, the town is overrun by gigantic and horrifying — yet very vibrantly colored — monsters, with Amber and her family doing everything they can to put the unwelcome visitors back in their place.

Undercurrents like this one are an incredible way to harness the power of cinema — whether it be through genres likeSketch’s comedy, drama, or even family-friendlyhorror. The way the movie masterfully tackles these difficult-to-talk-about subjects is probably a good part of the reason that it currently holds a staggering 100% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
