Illumination Pictures has released a new trailer for the animated adventureThe Secret Life of Pets. Directed byChris Renaud(Despicable Me) andYarrow Cheney, the comedy imagines the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day, focusing on the tenants of an apartment building in New York City. After two of their own are captured by animal control, the intrepid pack of furballs has to find their way back home through the action-packed streets of NYC.

I’m a die-hard animal lover and proud future cat lady, so this is right up my alley. The trailer offers a bit of a blend betweenToy StoryandHomeward Bound, reveling in the imaginary shenanigans of our most beloved companions when our backs are turned, and throwing in a dash of adventurous journey. Illumination Studios has been focused on theirDespicable Mefranchise in recent years and, from the looks of the trailers, The Secret Life of Pets offers not only a break from the Minion madness but a delightful animated comedy with some of the best comedic talent in the biz. The film boasts a stacked voice cast, includingLouis C.K.,Eric Stonestreet,Kevin Hart,Albert Brooks,Steve Coogan,SNL‘sBobby Moynihan, andDana Carvey.
