What Happened in the Premiere Episodes for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’?
In Episode 1,Daredevil: Born Againwastes no time getting morbid.Picking up where Season 3 left off, Matt, Foggy (Elden Henson), and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) enjoy a night out when an old threat resurfaces – Bullseye (Wilson Bethel).A deadly ambush ends with Foggy being mortally shot, and despite Matt’s desperate efforts, his best friend dies.
Fast-forward a year, Matt has completely abandoned his Daredevil persona. The only thing in his mind is his law career.Partnering with Kirsten McDuffie(Nikki M. James), he vows to honor Foggy’s memory by fighting crime in the courtroom. Meanwhile, Fisk, recovering from Echo’s events launches a mayoral campaign – with his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) running his empire in his absence. Despite his monstrous past, Fisk is a political frontrunner. By the episode’s end, Fisk is officially elected mayor, pushing Matt to relive his past identity once again to save Hell’s Kitchen from further turmoil.

In Episode 2, Fisksecures a landslide victory to become New York City’s mayor, despite his many opponents. Wasting no time, he publicly condemns vigilantes like Daredevil, the Punisher, and even Spider Man. Meanwhile, during Fisk’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, bystander Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes) steps in to stop what appears to be a mugging – only to realize he’s interrupted an act of police brutality. The corrupt NYPD responds violently, and Matt, against his law partner Kirsten’s advice, takes on Ayala’s defense pro bono.
As Matt prepares for trial, Fisk continues to take advantage of his political public relations with his ruthless, underground tendencies. His wife, Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer), is more interested in running a criminal empire than playing the role of the mayor’s wife. To control the media’s portrayal of Fisk, he agrees to an interview with BB Urich, the niece of the reporter he murdered back inDaredevilSeason 1.

Matt soon learns that Ayala is actually the vigilante White Tiger, making the case even more complicated. He turns to his girlfriend, Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) for guidance. However, Heather unknowingly ends up in Fisk’s orbit as their marriage counselor. Nearing the end of the episode, Matt tracks down a witness, only to be confronted by corrupted cops, including one sporting a Punisher-inspired tattoo.

Other Marvel Shows You Need to Watch Before ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ (2015-2018)
It’s time to go back to where it all started with Netflix’sDaredevil. By day, Matt Murdock (Cox) is a lawyer by trade; a feat considered remarkable due to his inability to see since he was a young boy. Astonishingly enough, what he lacks in sight, he makes up for with his other senses enhanced to superpower heights. At night, when the courtrooms are closed, Matt removes his stuffy suit and fights crime as Daredevil. Under his disguise, the off-the-rails vigilante takes the law into his own handsas he comes face-to-face with Hell’s Kitchen’s worst of the worst. Paving the way for grittier and bloodier Marvel adaptations,Daredevilproves that salvation is not for the morally corrupt.
Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’ (2017)
Apart from the Avengers, there were the Defenders. They might not have the recognition of “Earth’s mightiest heroes,” but they’re just as powerful enough to take down the world’s biggest threats. Taking place after the events ofDaredevilSeason 2,The Defendersconsists of Daredevil himself (Murdock), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). For audiences who have watched each of their own Marvel shows, you’d know that these five characters are far from perfect. Alone, they’re facing their trauma and carrying their respective emotional baggage. But together, they become a lot stronger than they realize. With the fate of New York City and the world in trouble, the Defenders brace themselves for one common foe: The Hand.
The Defenders
Marvel’s ‘The Punisher’ (2017-2019)
The Punisheris the origin story of Frank Castle, a.k.a. Punisher (Bernthal), who first appeared in Season 2 of Netflix’sDaredevil. With his return inDaredevil: Born Again, it only makes sense to go back to the fellow vigilante’s roots. Once a Marine veteran in his past life, his hunger for vengeance comes from the death of his family. Driven by unchecked grief and sheer revenge, Frank takes matters into his own hands, seeking every single individual responsible for killing the people whom he holds dear to his heart. His vendetta leads him to the dark underworld, where it’s just him versus an entire army of criminals. Frank is far from the typical Marvel mold. With neither a cape nor superhero abilities, his real “superpower” is that he’s an ordinary father who’s lost everything, including himself.
