At long (long) last,Stephen King’sThe Dark Toweris coming to the big screen withIdris Elbaplaying Roland Deschain andMatthew McConaugheyas the infamous sorcerer The Man in Black. DirectorNikolaj Arcelhas beenfilming the adaptation for some time now, so when might there be enough material to cut together the first trailer? Sooner than you think.

According tothe program highlights for EW’s PopFest, the magazine’s two-day festival in Los Angeles, the “first footage from Stephen King’sThe Dark Tower” will be revealed. A detailed schedule has yet to be publicly released, but the festival will run October 29-30.

It makes sense to debut the footage (whether it’s a trailer or clip or sizzle reel) at PopFest consideringEW heavily featured the filmand its first details in its Comic-Con issue. The magazine was also the one to announce casting of Elba and McConaughey.

TheDark Towerbooks and comics, beginning with The Gunslinger, told of Roland and the many-named sorcerer as one pursued the other on a  journey to reach the mystical tower at the heart of the fantastical realm known as Mid-World. Based on a screenplay from Arcel,Akiva Goldsman,Anders Thomas Jensen, andJeff Pinkner, the film isa secret sequelto the source material in that Roland has an artifact called the Horn of Eld allowing him to reset events with slight differences.

Ron HowardandBrian Grazertried to bring this story to life for years, but it never panned out because the source material proved so complex for just one film. ForThe Dark Tower,Katheryn Winnick,Jackie Earle Haley,Abbey Lee Kershaw,Claudia Kim,Nicholas Hamilton,Tom Taylor, andFran Kranzalso feature in the cast.

The Dark Toweris scheduled for theaters on August 01, 2025.
