It’s a big weekend on several levels. There is, of course, Easter, and at the movie theaters,Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justiceis looking to outpace the firstHunger Gamesmovie forbiggest March opening on record, while also seeking a place high on the highest grossing opening weekend of all time. And on the West Coast, WonderCon is going on, which offers several major panels on big Hollywood films that are in production or will be seeing release this year. Amongst the movies there isThe Conjuring 2, theJames Wan-helmed folow-up toThe Conjuring, the 2013 sleeper supernatural-thriller hit, and Wan took the moment to premiere a brand new trailer forThe Conjuring 2(click hereto read Tommy’s full rundown of the panel, during which Wan offered up some tantalizing teases for the sequel).
From the looks of things, Ed and Lorraine Warren (Vera FarmigaandPatrick Wilson), the paranormal investigators at the center of the firstConjuringfilm, are now themsleves being hunted by a specific angry spirit that’s been channeling itself through a young English child. It’s a simple story that allows for maximum scares, which is what really matters with these films, and the imagery that is gleaned in the trailer is in line with most of Wan’s typically frightening creations; a special nod to the creepy nun character. We’ll have to wait until June 10th to see how exactly all of this spooky stuff pieces together, but the general look of everything here suggests plenty of big scares are on their way.
