‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Return to Form
After the 90s gaveTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesa trilogy of live-action films and a live-action series in the vein of thePower Rangers, the franchise was more kid-friendly than ever. Once the new millennium hit, the Turtles were in desperate need of a refresh. That’s whenTMNT2003 took the brand in a more serious direction. It was still aimed at a younger demographic, but things like a darker color palette and our heroes actually using their signature weapons ensured this series wouldn’t have the same fate as its 80s counterpart. The series would run for seven seasons before ending in 2009. Thanks to the success of the revamp,TMNTwould get a new theatrical animated film in 2007 and another new series which premiered in 2012 on Nickelodeon. The Turtles haven’t been out of the spotlight since. Their next cinematic adventure will be a sequel to the critically-acclaimedMutant Mayhemin 2026 and will introduce a new version of the dreaded Shredder. There’s also another live-action film in the works, this time rated-R, based onThe Last Ronincomic book storyline.
