Rachel Brosnahanis looking to bring a fresh look to Lois Lane inJames Gunn’sSuperman.During a set visit for the upcoming DCU film, attended by Collider’sRoss Bonaime, Brosnahan discussedwhat she sees in the fierce journalist, Lois Lane, and what she hopes to bring to the role (and for how long).Brosnahan stars in the DC flick alongsideDavid Corenswetas Superman andNicholas Houltas Lex Luthor. When asked if there would be any departures from the character, like instances where she’s seen more as a “damsel in distress”, the actress tells Collider:

“You know, in my experience, she’s never been a damsel in distress. She’s always been so hungry and so relentless in her pursuit of the truth that she gets herself in trouble. She’s not always the most graceful in her pursuit of what’s right and just and true.So I think in that regard, you see her get herself into some piles, and that’ll continue in this world, as well, Again, as you would hope when you’re making a new film, there’s a slightly different angle to the kind of trouble that she gets herself in, Which, again, I can’t go into, but I’m excited for people to see this take on that kind of ambition.”

What Does Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane Think of Superman?

Lois Lane has been played by countless actresses, includingMargot Kidder,Erica Durance, Amy Adams, andElizabeth Tullochon screen. Each Lois has their own unique dynamic with Clark Kent and Superman, because each iteration is around him at a different point in their lives. For example, with Kidder’s Lois, we see their dynamic from before Lois knows that Clark is Superman, but with Tulloch’s Lois onSuperman & Lois, the pair are an established couple with a family.Brosnahan is taking ownership of her Lois, telling Collider that’s been the case since day one. “And I think after that first day, David and I just looked at each other and we were like, ‘OK. Shit. We’re in it.’ And I think that was the first time when I finished that day that I came back to my trailer and looked in the mirror and I was like, ‘OK, I think we can do this.’” That confidence with Lois goes hand in hand with playing opposite the Man of Steel. Bronsahan says:

“I think she appreciates Superman’s existence, and then sometimes has questions about his methodology. I think she’s somebody who sees around every corner and questions everything and everyone, and Superman is somebody who sometimes, in the pursuit of a greater good, is tackling the issue that’s immediately in front of him without necessarily seeing the potential ripple effect or the potential consequences that that could have. And so in that regard,I think she sometimes would wish that he was a little less short-sighted in her opinion.”
