Elizabeth Tullochspent four seasons on the recently concludedSuperman & Loisacting alongsideTyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent and a litany of other co-stars. However, her biggest regret is that she never shared a stage with one of the show’s last additions to its cast: one with four legs and paws. Tulloch discussed missing out on working with Krypto the Superdog in a recent interview with Collider’sTamera Jones.

TheSuperman & Loisfinalefeatures several flash-forwards into the future; eventually, Tulloch’s Lois dies of old age, prompting Superman to get a dog, Krypto, as a companion. That meant Tulloch never got to meet the dog, much to her dismay:

“I was bummed, though, because I love dogs. I am such a dog person, and I did not get to work with the dog. I forget the dog’s name who was cast as Krypto. That was kind of when Clark Kent aged after Lois had passed that we finally got the dog, and I heard the dog was so sweet and just kissing everyone and was almost problematically friendly. But, yeah, I always was pushing to have a dog around just because it’s funny.”

Superman & Loisended last year as part of a larger realignment at The CW, which is now under new ownership. It was the last ofa range of live-action TV series based on DC Comics characterson the network, which began in 2012 withArrow.

Who Is Krypto?

Krypto was created by writerOtto Binderand artistsCurt SwanandSy Berryin 1955’sAdventure Comics#210. As originally imagined, he was a dog from the doomed planet Krypton who Jor-El and Lara blasted into space in a prototype of the craft that would eventually bear their son Kal-El to Earth. Krypto eventually made his way there, as well, and just as Kryptonians develop superpowers beneath the light of a yellow sun, so do Kryptonian dogs. Outfitted with a cape, Krypto is often seen adventuring alongside his master, Superman. He headlined his own animated series,Krypto the Superdog, in 2005, and was voiced byDwayne Johnsonin the 2022 animated filmDC League of Super-Pets. He’ll also be front and center inJames Gunn’sSuperman, which premieres this week.

A spinoff ofSupergirl,Superman & Loisstarred Hoechlin and Tulloch as the title duo, now married and raising their two sons in Smallville, Kansas. Over the course of the show’s four seasons, they dealt with their sons' burgeoning superpowers while also facing off against classic Superman foes like Bruno Mannheim, Lex Luthor, and Bizarro.
