We’re rounding the corner into fall, and for superhero fans that means we’re that much closer to the superhero movies and TV shows that will make our end of the year a lot better – or at least we hope they do. Many highly anticipated superhero movies and series are premiering soon, with some of our favorite shows returning, and that’s plenty to look forward to. We don’t just think about the immediate future, but also what lies further ahead, so let’s get to the news of the week that will tell us what we need to know about superhero projects in both ends of that spectrum. This past week, we got our first look at Commissioner Gordon fromJustice League,The Flashgot a new Season 3 trailer,Supergirlreleased a Season 2 promo,Luke Cagegot a new featurette, andPower Rangersshowed off the Zords in new posters. Take a look below.
‘Justice League’: First Look at J.K. Simmons’ Commissioner Gordon
Last week we celebrated Batman Day, and directorZack Snydertook the opportunity to commemorate the occasion by revealingthe first image ofJ.K. Simmonsas Commissioner GordonfromJustice League. Snyder isn’t a stranger to teasing fans on social media, and this time around he shared a black and white image where we see Gordon on a rooftop alongside his handy bat signal. It’s a very nice picture that in a way made me feel that this wasn’t taking place in current time, but Snyder does usually give us things that are visually appealing, so no surprise there. We know Simmons has already wrapped onJustice Leagueand that his role is relatively small, so a photo like this is a nice little peak. The photo also brings to mind a certain scene we know about of Gordon interacting with the League on a rooftop, so perhaps that’s the moment we are looking at here.
‘The Flash’: New Season 3 Trailer and Poster
October 4th can’t get here fast enough for those of us waiting forThe Flashto return, but the wait got a little easier this week with the release of a new Season 3trailerandposter. While we know it won’t be the storyline of the entire season, this trailer is all about Flashpoint and the effects that Barry’s decision had on the new reality he has created. But we also know some repercussions will play throughout the whole season, so it’ll be interesting to see what those are. The newest poster formThe Flashcan be summed up in one word: Red, which is pretty much all we see other thanGrant Gustin’s face and the hero’s symbol. I know he’s the Scarlet Speedster and all but this feels like a little too much red, even for Flash.
‘Supergirl’: Kara and Superman Take Flight in Season 2 Promo
Supergirlis about to debut on its new home at the CW joined by Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), and we are reminded of the arrival in anew Season 2 promo. The new promo seesMelissa Benoist’s Supergirl and Superman take flight together and further teases this team-up that even the titular heroine dreamed of. The mere reveal of the proper introduction of Superman into this world was enough to catch a lot of attention for this second season, getting to actually see glimpses of it, like in this promo, just builds up more anticipation. What I am the most curious about is how they will handle Superman so that the spotlight rightfully remains on Supergirl.
‘Luke Cage’: New Featurette and Posters Released
Luke Cage’s premiere on Netflix is merely days away, meaning the marketing team is rushing to catch the attention of those who for some reason aren’t already on board with the series. The latest promotional material from the Marvel series came in the form of anew featuretteandnew character posters. In the new featurette we get insight into Luke Cage’s story and the journey he will be embarking on in this first season, how this simple man with incredible abilities won’t just let injustice stand and consume his community even though he’s not one to get involved. The three character posters feature some of the characters we will get to know inLuke Cagealong with representative quotes, the standout clearly beingMahershala Ali’s Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes and his memorable “everybody wants to be the king.”
‘Power Rangers’: Zords Shine in New Posters
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangerswas a big part of my childhood as it was for many, and the upcomingPower Rangerskind of brings back those memories with thenewest postersfrom the film. While we can’t see them entirely, the new posters show off the giant fighting robots known as Zords accompanied by their respective ranger. If anything, the posters do make me wonder what the Zords look like in full view. I can’t say I’ve been particularly blown away by any material from the film so far, but I am really curious to see what this version of the Power Rangers will be like.
In otherPower Rangersnews, we got the latestcasting announcementfrom the film. The team behind the upcoming movie revealed this week that actorBill Haderwill be lending his voice to play the lovable robot you might remember as Alpha 5. If you don’t remember because you’re unfamiliar, Alpha 5 is a robot who aids the Power Rangers and is known to yell “Aye-yi-yi-yi-yi!” in the middle of worrisome circumstances.
