Disney has released the firstStar Wars: ResistanceSeason 2 trailer, binging Sequel Trilogy character Kylo Ren into the fold and announcing that the second season will be the last for the Disney Channel animated series. This new season takes place during the events ofStar Wars: The Last Jediand leads up to the events ofStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, as Kaz and the team continue to fight the threat of the First Order.
This show was created by beloved Lucasfilm writer/producerDave Filonias the next animated series after the laudedStar Wars Rebels, and the first season covered events leading up to and running parallel toStar Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s unclear if the plan was always for the series to end after two seasons, but it can’t be a coincidence thatStar Wars: ResistanceSeason 2 catches up toRise of Skywalker, and thatRise of Skywalkeris being planned as the conclusion to the entire Skywalker saga and the finalStar Warsmovie released in theaters until 2022. Perhaps the show was only meant to serve as an addendum to the live-action film trilogy, and once that’s over,Resistanceends as well.
I haven’t yet watchedStar Wars: Resistancebut I did watch and enjoyStar Wars Rebels. There’s a great avenue forStar Warsstorytelling in the animation medium, and no doubt many new additions will appear on the upcoming streaming service Disney+ in due time.

The story picks up after a harrowing escape from the First Order, as the Colossus and all its residents find themselves lost in space, pursued by Agent Tierny and Commander Pyre. Kaz and team also face a myriad of new dangers along the way including bounty hunters, a suspicious Hutt, General Hux and Supreme Leader Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, Tam grapples with her future and where her true allegiance lies, with her friends or the First Order. The thrilling final season will showcase how the unlikeliest of heroes can help spark hope across the galaxy.
