For those who have been watchingDC’s Legends of Tomorrowon the CW and wishing for a truePrison Breakreunion between Captain Cold and Heat Wave’sWentworth MillerandDominic Purcell, you are in luck. Back in January, Fox confirmed that aPrison Breakrevival is in the works, starring Miller and Purcell as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, respectively. Now, Fox has added thatSarah Wayne Callieswill also be reprising her role as Dr. Sara Tancredi, along with some new details about what the revival series’ plot may entail.
The original series — which aired from 2005 through 2009 — revolved around Michael (Miller) attempting to rescue his brother Lincoln (Purcell) from prison for a death row crime he didn’t commit by gettinghimselfthrown into prison as well. The twisty series featured, of course, an elaborate prison break, and it seems the self-described “event series” will be much the same. According to a press release,
“In the drama’s new chapter, which picks up after Michael’s apparent death, Sara has moved on with her life, raising her and Michael’s child with her new husband(previously announced guest star Mark Feuerstein, “Royal Pains”). When clues surface that suggest Michael may be alive, Sara teams with Lincoln to engineer the series’ biggest escape ever.”
Fans should also note that the original creative team will also be returning, including producersPaul T. Scheuring,Neal Moritz,Marty Adelstein, andDawn Olmsteadare back as well with Scheuring serving as showrunner/writer.
The series is set to start production in April, presumably onceLegends of Tomorrowhas wrapped. And though Purcell’s Heat Wave has been sidelined from the crew of the Waverider currently, Captain Cold is still an integral part of the team (and one presumes Heat Wave won’t be gone for long). Presumably, thePrison Breakseries will have to work in between filming forLegends, although it’s not clear yet if the revival is going to be more than a limited event (ratings will tell!)
So far, thePrison Breakrevival is set for the 2016-2017 season, which sounds like it may arrive in the late fall.
