Bad news for fans ofBryan Bertino’sbreakout home invasion thrillerThe Strangers– producerAdrienne Biddlegave an update to Rue Morgue on the long in development sequel and bad news was heard by all: Bertino, Biddle and their production company are no longer involved with the film. Stating that while the movie has almost gone into production multiple times over the last few years, financial woes are currently preventing a second movie from being made. Further, Biddle clarified that while Bertino did write the script, he was never going to direct the film.
Before the Thanksgiving holiday I had the opportunity to attend a luncheon withFede Alvarez, his writing partnerRodo Sayaguesand producerSam Raimito discuss this years well reviewed hit thrillerDon’t Breathe. The Blu-ray is out now and is worth picking up if for no other reason than to hear Fede, Rogo andStephen Langtalk about the making of the film. It was here at this luncheon thatAlvarez revealed he and Sayagues believe they have cracked an idea for a second filminvolving The Blind Man character, which Sam Raimi called, “The greatest idea for a sequel” he’s ever heard.

Alvarez admits that they’re not sure the studio will be thrilled with their take, or in their words, an “anarchic” approach to a movie and that they haven’t begun writing yet. He also hasn’t decided if he would like to direct a second installment.
