And while he remained tight-lipped onwho will be stepping into the shoesof Bond himself — “That is a very, very good question, and one I can’t give you the answer to,” he laughed — the screenwriter made one thing clear: this isn’t going to be just another 007 film. “I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me andI will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, and better, stronger and bolder.”

Who Is Involved With James Bond?

Knight’s hiring comes after months of speculation about the franchise’s future under Amazon’s stewardship. With producersAmy PascalandDavid Heymanon board andTanya Lapointeexecutive producing, the upcoming film marks the first Bond movie developed since Amazon acquired MGM — and the first to fully embrace a new direction post-Daniel Craig.

Insiders say the search for the film’s writer has been intense, with multiple high-profile candidates taking meetings over the past few months. But Knight quickly rose to the top of the list. His final sign-off reportedly came after a face-to-face meeting with Villeneuve, who is currently filming the next chapter ofDune. Once the two aligned creatively, the deal came together.

For Knight, the Bond gig is just the latest in a long line of prestige projects. In addition toPeaky Blinders, his resume includesTaboo,See,SAS: Rogue Heroes,The Veil, andThis Town. His most recent project,All the Light We Cannot See, premiered on Netflix to strong acclaim. He was briefly attached to write aStar Warsfeature in 2024 but departed that project last fall, as most people tend to do with Star Wars projects these days.

There’s no official word yet on casting or release date, but this new era of Bond is shaping up to be anything but ordinary.
