As the calendar page turns from July to August, the looming dread of the back-to-school season returns. ButNetflixhas the cure for that seasonal angst in the form of its “C’s Get Degrees” collection. Debuting on August 1, the streamer has a collection of classic movies centering around “school days, teenage angst, and first-of-their-kind adventures.” The C’s Get Degrees collection features a number of classic films, ranging from the 1980s, the 1990s, and the 2000s.

The collection’s 1980s fare includes theJohn HughesclassicFerris Bueller’s Day Off, in which the title character (Matthew Broderick) plays hooky for a day with his neurotic best pal (Alan Ruck) and his girlfriend (Mia Sara) for an adventure across Chicago; another Hughes comedy,Weird Science, about a pair of goofball nerds (Anthony Michael HallandIlan Mitchell-Smith) accidentally create the perfect, and all-powerful, woman (Kelly LeBrock) via a scientific experiment; andAmy Heckerling’sFast Times at Ridgemont High, a sprawling slice-of-life comedy about a school year in the life of a collection of teenagers, includingSean PennandJennifer Jason Leigh.

What ’90s and ’00s Movies Are Included in the “C’s Get Degrees” Collection?

From the 1990s, the “C’s Get Degrees” collection includesClueless, Heckerling’s witty modernization ofJane Austen’sEmmawithAlicia SilverstoneandPaul Rudd;Empire Records, a cult classic about a day in the life of a quirky record store;American Pie, the most iconic sex comedy of the decade;Varsity Blues, a football dramedy withJames Van Der Beek;Dazed and Confused,Richard Linklater’s iconic look at the 1970s that introduced the world toMatthewMcConaughey; andShe’s All That, a take onMy Fair Ladywith the inseperable 1990s duo ofFreddie Prinze Jr.andMatthew Lillard.

Selections from the subsequent decade, the ’00s, feature a mix of comedy and drama. On the comedy side, there’sWet Hot American Summer, a satirical look at 1980s summer camp movies with a cast of burgeoning comedy stars, includingAmy PoehlerandBradley Cooper; andAmerican Pie 2, the lewder and cruder sequel to the original. For something more serious, the collection offersFriday Night Lights, the fact-based high school football drama that spawned a popular TV series, andThirteen, a harrowing look at troubled teenagers.

The collection also spotlights an all-new Netflix production, as well, in the form ofMy Oxford Year. The brand-new romantic comedy starsSofia Carson(The Descendants) as Anna De La Vega, an American student studying at Oxford who ends up finding more than academic fulfillment. It also starsCorey Mylchreest,Dougray Scott, andCatherine McCormack.
