Reboots and remakes have been the name of the game in TV recently, but no project has engendered more of a feeling of “Please God let it be good” as the upcomingLegends of the Hidden Templemovie. The game show, which ran on Nickelodeon, has been a staple of mid-1990s nostalgia, with the temple guards still haunting some of our dreams (as well as our confusion about why it was so difficult to put together those three pieces of the Shrine of the Silver Monkey).
Back in March, we first learned of Nickelodeon’s plans to bring the game show back … but as a TV movie. HostKirk Foggwould be returning as a “key figure”, potentially helping the movie’s cast of siblings — played byIsabela Moner,Colin CritchleyandJet Jurgensmeyer— navigate the temple (unless he’s being set up for a heel turn, which might actually be amazing).

At the time, though, the voice of the iconic Olmec (the giant talking rock statue)Dee Bradley Bakerwas not included in the project. Our own Dave Trumbore reached out to Baker on Twitter, and he replied:
I’ve heard Olmec already cast in new#LegendsoftheHiddenTemplemovie. I wasn’t asked to audition for some reason.https://t.co/7t4c6XHiE0

That tweet has since been deleted, and Baker is obviously back in the fold. Whatever drama happened behind the scenes, it’s clearly been sorted out (much like theGilmore Girlsrevival drama whereMelissa McCarthyinitially wasn’t included — for shame!) According to a press release, Baker said of the upcoming movie,

“An entire generation grew up lovingLegends of the Hidden Temple. It was my first television series, and it remains one of the most popular projects I’ve ever been lucky enough to have been involved with throughout my career. I’m thrilled that Kirk Fogg and I can once again man the temple as Nickelodeon brings it back in a fresh new way. This rock is once again ready to roll!”
