Charlie Coxcares very dearly aboutDaredevil. And that was evident whenDaredevil: Born Againwas released on Disney+ and we saw Cox return to the role of Matt Murdock. It means that he isn’t afraid to defend the character and his opinion on things, which is something he recently shared. During an interview withThe Playlistrecently, Cox shared thatthere was one episode during Season 1 ofDaredevil: Born Againthat fans like that he wasn’t the biggest supporter of.
When speaking with the outlet, Cox was asked about the new series and the infamous reworking of it. BeforeBorn Againwas released, fans heard whispersof an original draftof the series that reportedly included Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) essentially being erased from canon. The show was obviously reworked and changed, but Cox shared that one episode stayed through the strikes and into the reboot: “With Interest.” The episode includes Kamala Khan’s (Iman Vellani) father (Mohan Kapur) working at a bank where Matt has to stop a robbery. “I dunno if this is of interest, but I will say this amongst all of this, there was one episode we didn’t change at all. It’s the episode in the bank, and that was part of the original [shoot]. We shot that before the strike. That was part of the original, and just for my money, I wasn’t into it.”

Cox went onto say how the episode isn’t his favorite and said that it was his “least favorite of the episodes” and even “pushed back” on it. He went on to explain that he didn’t believe that they could do a bank heist in 2025. “That feels like a 1970s game. Too much technology these days for that to work. And also, I didn’t think the actual device used for the theft was sophisticated enough.” But even though he wanted to fight them on the episode, Cox shares that fans come up to him to share now much they love it. “I really pushed back on the episode, and yet I hear from so many people that they love that episode. So, it just goes to show you just don’t know. It’s so subjective. Everyone’s taste is different. And I’ve heard that that episode is one of the highest-rated. Internally, when they do their ratings, it’sone of the highest-rated Disney shows that they’ve had.”
Part of the interview got into Cox returning to the franchise and working with Marvel more directly. The original series was on Netflix and not officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But with Cox joiningSpider-Man: No Way HomeandShe-Hulk: Attorney At Lawprior to the release ofDaredevil: Born Again, fans saw the inclusion of the character they’ve lovedsince 2015. The Playlist asked Cox if he ever was afraid of coming back for fear that it wasn’t going to be the same as before. Cox assured the outlet that he never had that feeling.

“My experience with Marvel has always been start to finish, that maybe more than any other studio I’ve worked with, they value the input of the actors as much as anyone. And evenKevin Feige has on numerous occasions called me and said, ‘What do you think? What’s working for you? What’s not?’ Which is shocking to me because I always think, particularly with a company like Marvel, I always think they’ve got it all mapped out and they know exactly where it’s all going, what they want. And I think probably the reason they have such huge success is becausethey’re quite flexibleand they do want to be guided as well as guide.”
