It’s heeeeeeere. Netflix has unveiled the first actual teaser trailer for the revival seriesFuller House, and this time there are real-life people involved,not just a lonely dog. The entire cast (well,not the Olsen Twins) comes together in this brief teaser, which shows the usual busy family toiling away at various chores in a familiar-looking living room, accompanied by the show’s unforgettable theme song (which is getting an update courtesy ofCarly Rae Jepsen, obviously). While nearlyeveryoneis onhand for this teaser, the actual show mainly revolves aroundCandace Cameron Bure’s D.J.,Andrea Barber’s Kimmy Gibbler, andJodie Sweetin’s Stephanie as the adult iterations of their characters now stand in for the original show’s trio of protagonists Danny, Uncle Jesse, and Uncle Joey.
ButBob Saget,Dave Coulier,Lori Louglin, and the one and onlyJohn Stamosare poised to make guest appearances on the Netflix sitcom, and they’re definitely onhand for this teaser. CreatorJeff Franklinis also onboard, executive producing the revival alongsideThomas L. MillerandRobert L. Boyett.
Does the world need an update on theFull Housegang? Probably not. But if there are fans that are genuinely eager to revisit these characters, I’m not going to begrudge them that. I’m mostly curious to see how this sitcom format translates to the year 2016. WhenFull Houseran rampant on network TV (and subsequently in rereuns), the family sitcom was all the rage. Nowadays, it’s a genre that has gone through some major evolution over the years, dominated by single-camera comedies that are either irreverent in tone or bringing something unique to the table with regards to the definition of “family.” There’s still the ratings juggernaut that isThe Big Bang Theory, of course, but success on that level for a multi-cam sitcom remains rare.
Regardless,Fuller Houseis coming to Netflix with all 13 episodes hitting the streaming service at once on February 26th.
