20th Century Fox has released the first images from their upcoming action-comedyStuber. The film, directed byMichael Dowse(Goon), starsDave Bautistaas Vic Manning, a reengage cop who also recently just had Lasik surgery so he can’t drive himself anywhere. Enter Stu (Kumail Nanjiani), a hapless Uber driver who takes Vic on as a fare and gets drawn into the cop’s journey through Los Angeles to find a murderer.

So why wouldn’t Stu just turn down Vic’s fare (which Uber drives can do)? “Stu is the biggest do-gooder you could imagine,” Bautista tellsEW. “He’s very peaceful, a Buddhist/yoga type of person. So he just wouldn’t. He would feel guilty for the next three years if he actually turned down a ride. He’s really a kindhearted person.”

According to EW, the film is in the vein of the mismatched buddy-cop movies of the 1980s: “Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in48 Hours. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Belushi inRed Heat. Maybe even Bob Hoskins and the cartoon bunny inWho Framed Roger Rabbit.” Putting together Bautista and Nanjiani is kind of genius, not just because of the mismatch, but because they’re both so good at comedy. While Nanjiani, who has a background in standup comedy, is obviously hilarious, we shouldn’t forget that Bautista routinely gets some of the biggest laughs in theGuardians of the Galaxymovies andAvengers: Infinity War.
