While at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, I landed an extended video interview withElisabeth Moss. She was in town to promote two upcoming films -Ben Wheatley‘sHigh RiseandJames Vanderbilt’sTruth- that couldn’t be more different.

InHigh-Rise, adapted from aJ.G. Ballardnovel, Moss plays the very pregnant wife ofLuke Evansand her character exists in a very chaotic world filled with drugs, booze and sex. There’s quite a bit less of such indulgences inTruth, based onMary Mapes‘ book,Truth and Duty, which covers the scandal that erupted when Dan Rather, played in the film by Robert Redford, and producer Mapes (Cate Blanchett) aired a segment about George W. Bush’s time in the United States National Guard during the Vietnam War on60 Minutes II. Moss takes on the role ofLucy Scott, a CBS journalist enlisted by Mapes during the scandal.

During the interview, Moss talked about being involved in both projects, what it was like making both films, what it’s like now that she’s wrapped onMad Men, plays some “Save or Kill”, and a lot more. Watch what she had to say below and further down the page are the synopses for both films.

Here’s the synopsis forHigh Rise:

  1. Two miles west of London, Dr. Laing moves into his new apartment seeking soulless anonymity, only to find that the building’s residents have no intention of leaving him alone. Resigned to the complex social dynamics unfolding around him, Laing bites the bullet and becomes neighbourly. As he struggles to establish his position, Laing’s good manners and sanity disintegrate along with the building. The lights go out and the elevators fail but the party goes on. People are the problem. Booze is the currency. Sex is the panacea. Starring Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans and Elisabeth Moss.

Here’s the synopsis forTruth:

In the vein ofAll the President’s MenandThe Insider, this is the incredible true story of Mary Mapes, an award-winning CBS News journalist, and Dan Rather’s producer. The film chronicles the story they uncovered of a sitting U.S. president that may have been AWOL from the United States National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War. When the story blew up in their face, the ensuing scandal ruined Dan Rather’s career, nearly changed a U.S. presidential election, and almost took down all of CBS News in the process. Based on Mapes’s bookTruth and Duty. Starring Cate Blanchett, Elisabeth Moss, Robert Redford, Topher Grace, Dennis Quaid and Bruce Greenwood.
