Hot on the heels of theinternational trailer debut, 20th Century Fox has released the U.S. trailer for the sure-to-be-crowdpleasingEddie the Eagle. Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of unlikely British ski jumper Michael “Eddie” Edwards (Taron Egerton), who enlists the help of a rebellious has-been coach (Hugh Jackman) to try and make the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics despite his complete lack of talent. I honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve been so damn delighted by a trailer for a film I knew so little about, but boy hasEddie the Eagleshot up towards the top of my Most Anticipated list for 2016. The tone is playful, funny, and sincere, and Jackman and Egerton appear to make a fantastic dynamic duo.
The picture is directed byDexter Fletcher, withMatthew Vaughnserving as a producer. Indeed, Egerton broke out in a big way this year in Vaughn’s delightful (in a very different way)Kingsman: The Secret Service, and judging by this trailer, that was no fluke—Egerton’s the real deal.
