You hear a lot about the lack of bonafide movie stars these days – after all, long gone are the days when studios could count on an actor to open a movie at the box office, but if there’s one dude out there who’s found a way to successfully combine athleticism, movie stardom, and internet fame into one non-stop, money-making brand, it’sDwayne Johnson. Ever busy with a steady stream of blockbuster movies, not to mention leading an HBO series, and hell, even an app, Johnson’s always hustling and bustling.
Which is how we end up with this interesting new promo forRampage, which banks on Johnson’s brand of personality even more than the action of the film itself. We do get a big as gator creature for a split second, but mostly we get an ad spot tailor-made to show off the personality of its star.
Rampagereunites Johnson with hisSan AndreasdirectorBrad Peyton, and pulls from the 1980s video game, starring Johnson as a primatologist who has to save the day when three genetically-altered beasts — a giant gorilla, wolf, and crocodile wreak havoc across the nation. The film also starsNaomie Harris,Malin Akerman,Jake Lacy,Joe ManganielloandJeffrey Dean Morgan, as well asP.J. Byrne,Marley Shelton,Breanne Hill,Jack Quaid, andMatt Gerald.

Here’s the official synopsis forRampage:
Primatologist Davis Okoye (Johnson), a man who keeps people at a distance, shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla who has been in his care since birth. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry transforms this gentle ape into a raging monster. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered alpha predators. As these newly created monsters tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with a discredited genetic engineer to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend.
