Despite positive reviews andrecord-breaking numbersupon release,Dexter: Resurrectionhasn’t turned out to be the breakout revival that Showtime would’ve liked. At least not yet. The series serves as a sequel to the poorly receivedDexter: New Bloodfrom a few years ago, which itself was a continuation of the originalDexter. Having premiered in 2006, the series became a key part of the Golden Age of Television, where it competed for attention withLost,Breaking Bad,Mad Men, and eventually,Game of Thrones.Dexteralmost singlehandedly kept Showtime running, and its popularity needs no further proof than the numbers it’s delivering now, over a decade after its conclusion. In fact, the originalDexteris outperformingDexter: Resurrection.
According toFlixPatrol, the new show was nowhere to be found on the Paramount+ top 10 charts on July 31, whereas the original show took the number 10 spot. On August 1, however,Resurrectionjumped to the number three spot, while the originalDexterdropped out of the top 10. A similar trend was observed not too long ago withGuy RitchieandRonan Bennett’sMobLand, which witnessed weekly spikes every time a new episode dropped, but tanked midweek. After its finale, the show has been a fixture on the Paramount+ charts, indicating thata significant chunk of the audience has become accustomed to the binge modelpopularized by Netflix and Prime Video.

The originalDexterhas accumulated over 4,000 pointsonFlixPatrolthis year, whileResurrectionhas accumulated a total of 1,689 pointsso far. The franchise follows a Miami bloodspatter analyst named Dexter Morgan, who leads a secret life as a serial killer who hunts down other serial killers and murderers.Resurrectionfollows Dexter on a quest to mend bridges with his son, who is also displaying a thirst for killing, while evading his old friend Angel Batista, who has become suspicious of him.
