The spooky season is fast approaching. Because of that, we’re going to be seeing a ton of movie marathons on TV featuring iconic slasher franchises likeHalloween,Texas Chain Saw Massacre,Friday the 13thandA Nightmare on Elm Street. However, when it comes to thehorrorcomedy subsection of the genre, few legends can go toe-to-toe withChucky. The famous killer doll’s latest TV series may have been abruptly canceled, butChuckyis now getting a new blood-soaked physical media edition.
Thanks toGruv,you can now pre-orderChucky’s Complete Series 4K steelbook. This includesall three seasons of the TV series on six discs. While the special features most likely remain the same as the individual season releases, the artwork features an “innocent” looking Chucky going back to school. He’s in front of some yellow lockers with blood leaking out. The design wraps around the back with different shots from the show taped to the lockers.The inside cleverly mimics opening the locker.This is where you’ll find a bloody knife, a steamy picture ofChucky and Tiffanyand starJennifer Tilly, who remains a horror queen. This jammed-packed edition will be $59.95 USD.
Chucky’s Return to Pop Culture Dominance
While the 2010s saw Chucky have a few lacklusterdirect-to-video sequelsand a controversial remake ofChild’s Play, the TV series was a return to form for the character.Chucky has seen many formsover the decades, but the villain has always worked best when he blends horror and comedy equally. The series more than understood that, withChucky returning to hisslasher rootsand mean-spirited wise cracks.
The series also brought the franchise to a few fresh locations, including a religious boys' home and The White House. The latter of which saw the series' most creative and brutal kills to date. Also, the series casting horror legends likeDevon Sawa(Final Destination)alongsideChuckymainstays like Tilly andBrad Dourif,gave the overall story a lot of goodwill. However, the glowing reviews and reception couldn’t save Syfy from canceling the series in late 2024. The show ended on a cliffhanger, but creatorDon Manciniis currently working on the next filmin the franchise. Hopefully, the upcoming installment can resolve some of the dangling plot lines of this murder-happy series.
