That supposed opening featured a severed hand holding a lightsaber floating in space. Turns out, it was true.Mark Hamill spoke about the original opening, confirming it was there but ultimately cut. Thankfully. The whole panel agreed – it was a stupid idea that didn’t “feel” like aStar Warsopening.

The actor talked with Entertainment Weekly about the level of detail involved in the making ofRogue Oneand shared his first memories of the Star Wars universe. He said that he didn’t follow the storyline but remembers the images (from the original) and they were seared onto his brain. On set, he felt it was a bunch of trippy set pieces for him.
Anakin Reference Cut fromTheForce Awakens
J.J. Abramsrevealed in an interview that he wanted the flags found in Maz Kanata’s castle to be an Easter Egg haven for fans of the series. In the flags we saw a number of things that were callbacks to the original movies, a big one being Boba Fett’s flag. Turns out there was a flag seen in the trailers that was from Anakin’s pod inStar Wars: Episode I -ThePhantom Menace. But later it was cut out of the original release because, as J.J. said, he didn’t want to include pod-racing references.
