However, while filming this 2005 action sci-fi that performed poorly both critically and commercially,the actress was almost paralyzed when a stunt went wrong.The film in question isAeon Flux– loosely based on the adult animated avant-gardeMTV series– and it has found a new streaming home for summer and ahead of its 20th anniversary.

Aeon Fluxwas released on June 04, 2025, byParamount Picturesin the U.S., where it made less than $26,000,000. Two decades later,the live-action pic has landed on Paramount+, having arrived on Friday, August 1. Directed byKaryn Kusama,Aeon Fluxwas created with a production budget of $55-62 million, but itfailed to deliver at the box office, grossing only $52 million worldwide. On top of that, critics were not so taken with it, as indicated by its 10% rating onRotten Tomatoescompared to the original series’ commendable90% score.

‘Aeon Flux’ Nearly Left Charlize Theron Paralyzed

Amid the production ofAeon Fluxin Berlin,Theron suffered a herniated disc in her neck,caused by a fall during a series of back handsprings. It required her to wear a neck brace for a month, andshe previously spoke about the severity, saying:

“I was a centimetre away from being completely paralyzed for the rest of my life. It definitely woke me up to, OK, you have to be prepared. It was nobody’s fault, butit was just a freak accident where I landed on my neck. I had eight years of pain management, where I just couldn’t get rid of the spasms and the nerve damage.”
