It’s no wonder why Disney is doubling down on their live-action fairy tale slate, in its third week at the Box Office,Jon Favreau’sThe Jungle Bookremake continues to dominate the competition, taking home $10 Million at the Friday Box office, for an estimated $38M weekend total. Those are great numbers for a third weekend haul – the 8th best of all time, in fact – and will easily secure week in the #1 slot, with the Friday returns bringingThe Jungle Book’s domestic total to $219.9M and passing the $600M mark internationally.
Elsewhere,Keanu, the feature film debut of Key and Peele comedy duoKeegan-Michael KeyandJordan Peeleis on track to take second place with a Friday haul of $3.46M for an estimated $9M-plus weekend total.Peter Atencio’s R-rated comedy stars Key and Peele as two suburban cousins who infiltrate the criminal world to rescue the beloved titular kitten. While these aren’t blowout opening numbers, they putKeanuwell on track to recoup it’s modest $15M budget.

Meanwhile, the weekend’s other big new releaseMother’s Dayis falling behind expectations, taking in $2.78M on Friday for an estimated $7.7M weekend total. The latest in Gary Marshall’s star-studded holiday-centric films, Mother’s Day starsJennifer Aniston,Julia Roberts,JasonSudeikis,Timothy OlyphantandKate Hudsonand follows the intertwining stories of three generations of women in the week leading up to Mother’s Day. The comedy falls short of Marshall’s previous ensemble efforts,Valentine’s Day, which opened to $56.3M in 2010, andNew Year’s Eve, which earned a more modest $13M in 2011.
The weekend’s final newcomer, the animated video game adaptationRatchet and Clankbrought in an estimated$1.48 million, looking at a three-day total around $5.5 million. Featuring the voices ofPaul Giamatti,John Goodman,Bella Thorne,Rosario DawsonandSylvesterStallone, the film follows Ratchet and his robot sidekick on their mission to save the universe.

While Marvel’sCaptain America: Civil Wardoesn’t arrive domestically until next weekend, the superhero epic is already cleaning up overseas with a total $84M in it’s first three days. The international total, which earns its biggest haul from South Korea’s $12.6M so far, is on par withAvengers: Age of Ultron, and a fantastic lead up to the domestic release, which is tracking for a possible $200M debut.
