WhenBlade Runner 2rolls around, it’ll certainly be a high profile sequel, but directorDenis Villeneuveis keeping it “all in the family” when it comes to the behind-the-scenes team. When Villeneuve first signed on we learned he was bringing hisPrisonersandSicariocinematographerRoger Deakinsinto the fold, marking an unbelievably exciting prospect for one of the best directors of photography working today. And now we’ve learned that Villeneuve is adding anotherSicarioveteran to his team: composerJóhann Jóhannsson.

The composer, who landed Oscar nominations for his work onSicarioandThe Theory of Everything, revealed onIcelandic radio station RUV(viaThe Playlist) that he will indeed be composing the score for the untitledBlade Runnersequel. This is mighty exciting news, as Jóhannsson’s haunting work onSicariowas nothing short of astounding, and he’s quickly become one of the most exciting composers working today. He first reunites with Villeneuve on the sci-fi filmArrival, which opens in theaters this fall and starsAmy Adamsin what’s essentially a first contact story as told through Villeneuve’s unique lens.
