While studios prefer for movies to come in at the two-hour mark or less, they’re willing to make an exception for blockbusters, which usually can come in at two hours and thirty minutes before execs start worrying about how many shows they can squeeze in (if you want to reach for three hours, you have to be a straight-up,Lord of the Rings-style epic).
So perhaps it’s not so surprising thatAMC Theaters[viaThe Playlist] has posted theBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceruntime at 2 hours and 31 minutes. For comparison, that’s eight minutes longer thanMan of Steel, nine minutes longerAvengers: Age of Ultron, but 13 minutes shorter thanThe Dark Knight Rises, which I believe currently holds the record for longest superhero movie.

What does this mean for the quality of the film? Nothing! If the film is great, you won’t even notice that your butt hasn’t moved for 151 minutes. However, the longer the film goes, the more chance it has to lose its audience. But with the amount of action the film’s likely to have, I’m sure directorZack Snyderwill be able to hook us on pure spectacle alone. I just hope he has the story to match. At the very least, it sounds like he has a little room to squeeze in Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and possibly The Flash (Ezra Miller).
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceopens March 25th.
