Much like how Disney and Sony made a pact to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some fans have beenhopingfor something similar regarding 20th Century Fox’s X-Men and the Fantastic Four. The future of the cinematic mutants area bit murkyat the moment, and it’s even worse for Marvel’s first family. Unfortunately, Marvel Studios headKevin Feigeput the breaks on this chatter during a recent interview.

Speaking withVarietyabout the crossover potential, he said:

“It’s an impossibility at this juncture. We certainly have enough films to keep us busy for a number of lifetimes.”

So that seems like we can cross another prediction of our list for those untitled post-Infinity WarMarvel movies.

That means Fox has their work cut out for them, at least for now. According to various reports, the hope is to make anotherX-Meninstallment focused onJennifer Lawrence,James McAvoy, andMichael Fassbender, but all three have been cryptic about the status of their return and their contracts expired withX-Men: Apocalypse, meaning renegotiations would have to occur. Lawrence had even said that if one of them doesn’t want to return, they all won’t. Furthermore,Deadpool 2hit a snag when directorTim Millerbowed out over creative differences, and thesoloGambitmoviewithChanning Tatumwas put on hold. However, there still is theNew Mutantsadaptationin the pipeline, which hasFault in Our StarshelmerJosh Boonewriting and directing.

WithFantastic Four, the drama over the 2015 reboot was so intense that writer-directorJosh Trankis still feeling the burn. Some of the cast members said they’re up to return for a sequel, but the slotted release date forFantastic Four 2was dropped. As per the original deal that gave Fox the property, the studio can’t wait around, either, or else the rights will revert back to Marvel.

Fox and Marvelarebreaking the ice the TV sphere, becauseJeph Loeb, who heads Marvel’s television division, is producing FX’sLegionas a co-production between Marvel TV and Fox’sSimon Kinberg,Lauren Shuler Donner, andBryan Singer. They were also developing aHellfire Clubseries with Marvel butplans for that show were eventually scuttled.
