The PittSeason 1 finale is set to premiere on Max tomorrow, and leading starNoah Wyleis pulling back the curtain on what has made it such a popular show.The Pitthas garnered praise from viewers around the globe not only for its authenticity and commitment totelling a story grounded in its practitionersbut also for its episodic structure. The 15-episode show covers 15 hours at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, with each episode covering an hour for doctors and nurses in the ER. This is usually not how other medical dramas are structured, and during a recent interview with PBS, Wyle spoke about what led him and the creative team behindThe Pittto settle on this method of storytelling that adds such urgency to the plot:
“To give that exact desired effect. We wanted to come up witha device that felt intimate and created a sense of tension, analogous to doing kind ofa ride-along with a police officerin the back seat of a cruiser or beingembedded with a combat unit as a journalist.”
This is certainly an interesting comparison for Wyle to make, especially consideringThe Pittdraws out the same sense of tension as a movie likeCivil War, which is exactly the “journalist in a combat zone” theme that he described.The Pittpremiered more than three months ago on January 9 as one of the biggest gambles for Max — it is the platform’s first original medical procedural — but it has proven to be worth the risk and then some.The Pitthas already been renewed for Season 2, with production starting not long ago. There will also be an eight-month time jump between seasons, with the follow-uptaking place over the Fourth of July weekend. Max CEOCasey Bloyshas even already confirmed thatThe PittSeason 2 will be released in January 2026.
