Today, at D23, Disney unveiled six newStar Wars: The Last Jedicharacter posters that carried on with the red color motif. It’s a nice look, and it helps distinguish these new movies from the ones that came before. The watchword today at the presentation seemed to be “unexpected”, and this certainly doesn’t look like the marketing campaign we got forStar Wars: The Force AwakensorRogue One....

As promised, directorMatt ReeveshasdebutedcomposerMichael Giacchino’s Riddler theme from the upcoming superhero filmThe Batman. Featuring haunting vocals and almost no brass or percussion to speak of in the first two minutes, the five-minute track crescendos with bold orchestration in the middle, before bringing it back down toward the end, as if Giacchino has given the theme a three-act structure. Foreboding and majestic in equal measure, the theme is music befitting a worthy adversary for the Batman....

Judging from the first trailer alone, I hopeChiwetel Ejiofor’s directorial debutThe Boy Who Harnessed the Windis as well-received and talked about as other recent Netflix original features have proven to be. The difference here is that this film goes well beyond popcorn entertainment and actually has something to say while also offering an inspiring tale based on a true life story. Ejiofor adaptedWilliam KamkwambaandBryan Mealer’s book by the same name for the film, which tells ofa thirteen year old Malawi boy, based on Kamkwamba, who finds an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine....

In the 2010 filmScott Pilgrim vs. The World, the relationship between the protagonist Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) andthe drummer of garage band Sex Bomb-Omb Kim Pine(Allison Pill) raises far more questions than answers. It’s hard to tell whether Kim’s remarks towards Scott are part of her sardonic personality, or if there are some hard feelings between them.The lines are hilarious, with standouts like “If your life had a face, I would punch it,” but one begins to wonder about the nature of their relationship, and how it got so fraught....

WhileCate Blanchettis currently enjoying a mountain of accolades and praise for her tremendous performance inCarol, it appears the actress is still keen to play in the world of blockbuster filmmaking—with Marvel, no less. PerVariety, the Oscar-winner is in early talks to join the cast ofThor: Ragnarokplaying one of the film’s new female lead roles. While Variety’s report has no details on Blanchett’s character,Birth.Movies.Death.reported in October that Marvel plans to introduce the superheroine Valykrie in this film, so that’s certainly a possibility....

Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) is blown to smithereens as he sacrifices himself to save his son and fellow Wayward Pines survivors. Sure – the series ended on aTwilight Zone-esque cliffhanger as Burke’s son Ben (Charlie Tahan) awakens to discover his father’s sacrifice was for naught and Wayward Pines has been taken over by a bunch of Fascist Millenials; but the first season conclusively answered any lingering questions....
